The Authoritative Parenting Style

Three parenting styles

  • The Permissive parenting style – this is the most undesirable parenting style. The parents who use this kind of parenting style don’t impose rules and standards to their children at all. They think that it’s better to just let their children regulate themselves however they think it’s best for them. This parenting style has a deficiency since the child doesn’t have so much knowledge about the world as the parent has. A little girl who has no guidance will take anything from the environment that she can understand, at the level that she can understand. The parents that use this type of parenting style have no other choice since they don’t know how to do more for their children. They choose the least damaging parenting style that they can afford to do. It’s just such a shame that this parenting style is the most damaging among all the parenting style that exist.
  • The authoritarian parenting style – it’s the kind of parenting style that damages the psychic of the child the most. The parents who use this style to educate their children with, impose some rules that even they cannot explain those rules for themselves.¬† They tend to distort the reality and see only their version.
  • The authoritative parenting style¬† – it’s the best type of parenting style. The parents who educate their children in this manner will consider the child as a tiny mature human being from which there are some expectations and standards that have to be fulfilled. This type of parents are always opened to discussions and explanations. Most of all, they teach their children to be responsible.

The authoritative parenting style

Parents that want to educate their children in this manner invest their children with trust and treat them as normal mature beings who don’t know just yet hot to deal with the things in life. They offer their unconditional intelligent love. They know perfectly that sometimes profound love doesn’t always seem love at the first sight but always has good intentions. They encourage their children to talk about their feelings, they take their children wishes into consideration before they ask them to do something and they provide their children with reasons for the expectations that they have for them. The authoritative parents respect their children’s opinion and encourage them to express it even if they are different from their own. Unlike the authoritarian parents, the authoritative parents know that there is more to the teen years than school and they don’t overwhelm their children with high school study tips. Of course school is important, but teens go through a lot of changes during their high school years and while they might appreciate your high school study tips, they also need a different type of support from you. They need to know that you understand what they are going through and that you will protect them while also allowing them to make their own mistakes, just like you did when you were young. For the nowadays society it’s desirable to have as many children educated by authoritative parents. This way there will be more and more citizens that have the awareness of social responsibility. This may be translated into a better world with broader views. People who were raised in the spirit of an authoritative parenting style have interest not only in their own well being, but they prefer a better world in which the amount of unfair unequal differences between people, countries, societies, cults, communities and religions will be peacefully reduced for the general well being of the world. Not only that the authoritative parenting style represents the most intelligent educational style, but it’s the only parenting style that will make a sustainable change for the better in this world. It’s good for a little child to have as many life experiences ever since the childhood. It’s interesting to see how a little boy who lives for a short period of time with persons who has different parenting style, will experience changes in his behavior and beliefs – for the better or for the worse, depending on the situation. Children are just like white sponges. They get the color and the flavor of their parents’ mentalities.
