Top 5 weirdest buildings in the world

Whether you travel the world on vacation, business or for some other intended purpose, there is a better than average chance that you will encounter a building or two which will cause you to have a double take to allow it some time to sink in. In some of these cases, it may even be necessary to take pictures so that your friends back at home will believe it when you tell them. Maybe you just can’t explain what you saw and need a picture to do the work for you. Regardless of the situation, here are some weird buildings that I came across.

Crooked House

Sopot Poland is the location of the first of five weird buildings and although it is called a house, it is not anyone’s home. The fact of the matter is that it is used for shopping and houses many popular restaurants and cafes. This interesting piece of architecture has been around since 2004 and was put together by Szotynscy Zaleski, one of Poland’s better known architects. If you ever pass by the crooked house, you will probably be joining the line of countless other tourists who insist on this building being photographed. With more curves than a beautiful woman and entrances to the building, standing out in Colorful stained glass, it is certain to leave a lasting impression on all who grace its presence.

Habitat 67

In the late sixties, Montreal Canada was the location for one of the great world Expos. Designed by Moshe Safdie, an Israeli born Canadian, the habitat was initially designed and approved for the 67 Expo and was funded entirely by the government at that time. Still located at 2600 Avenue Pierre-Dupu, this now famous landmark is said to contain 148 apartments, where happy tenants live and dwell next to the Saint Lawrence River. At its highest point, the complex is said to be 12 stories high and each of the apartments have some sort of terrace for the residents to step outside and enjoy.

Cathedral of Brasilia

Catholics have spoken for some time about this Cathedral, in fact even though regular services are not carried out here, it does serve as the seat of the Archdiocese of Brasilia. The Metropolitan Cathedral of Our Lady Aparecida, as it is officially known, was actually designed by Oscar Niemeyer. Because this architectural marvel was said to be the brainstorm of an atheist, it was understandably delayed for some time before the structure could be consecrated. Although the building is considered by some to have inadequate ventilation, it is difficult to ignore the need for reverence upon entering the sanctuary.

Art museum in Niteroi

Wherever we go, one of the first things that we are usually drawn to are the museums. In the city of NiterĂ³i, the art museum is a piece of art itself and could easily be considered as the main attraction. It is not that this piece of architecture does not have interesting things to see on the inside, because it does. At approximately 16 meters high with just three floors, the museum stands out from a mile away, especially among the other structures located nearby. Designed by Oscar Niemeyer, this unique structure resembles an upside down flying saucer.

Conch Shell House

Located on the island of Isla Mujeres and with Caribbean Ocean water all around it, our last weird building has got to be the Conch Shell House. If you like shells and you ever wondered what a snail feels like when inside, this house could really open your eyes. Designed by well known artist, Octavio Ocampo, this masterpiece could make you look at shells on an entirely different level.
